Before heading to my lectures on Monday, I called Evelyn and informed her that we would meet after my classes. My lectures concluded at 5 p.m., so I went back home afterward.
When I got home, I found Evelyn cooking.
There was a slight tension between us, which was understandable given that we had some unresolved issues.
After we finished eating and had some time to relax, I decided to address the incident from two days ago.
“Evelyn, let me be completely open with you, and I hope you’ll do the same with me.......I’m sorry for what happened.
There’s absolutely nothing between Mirabel and I, whatever we had ended a long time ago. She stayed over that night because we went to a party, got back late, and she couldn’t leave. Nothing happened”........I explained.
“But she was wearing your briefs”........she mentioned.
“Did you expect her to sleep over Unclad or in her party clothes?”.........I replied sarcastically.
“If there is nothing going down between you guys, she would have left first thing in the morning. But no, you allowed her to stay back until afternoon.......Which means it is either something went down or you were planning on something going down. I’m not a kid Pascal, I know all those stuffs but that is in the past now it shouldn’t happen again”.........she warned.
“Now you have made your conclusion without even trying to give me the benefit of doubt. That’s okay. I want to ask you something and please be truthful to me”...........I requested.
“Okay, go on”........she replied.
“What happened between you and Mirabel back then?”.........I inquired.
“What happened as how?”........she asked.
“I don’t know, but you were here yesterday and heard everything she said. So I’m asking you, what happened? I don’t want to ask her yet. If something happened between you guys, I want to hear it from you first”.........I demanded.
“Pascal, whatever happened between Mirabel and I happened in the past......Believe me, it’s nothing that should get you worried. It is just some girl issues and we settled it then.
I guess she reacted that way because she felt I threatened her”........she exclaimed.
“It doesn’t seem that way to me. I feel there is more to it than you are telling me. So, I implore you to tell me the truth. Did you threaten Mirabel to leave me back then?”.........I asked.
“You are very funny Pascal. Threaten her for what? Why would I stoop so low to do that, what do I stand to gain?”.........she retorted.
“How do I know?”.......I replied.
“It is just funny how you could believe the words of your ex over that of your girlfriend”........she said mockingly.
“Don’t even try to play the victim here with me. I know something went down between the two of you. But since you aren’t ready to tell me, I’m going to ask Mirabel myself”.........I snapped, feeling irritated.
“So you are going back to her? You can as well tell me that it is over between us since you are going back to your ex. I don’t know why I keep being the one always receiving the short end of you”
“Now you want to go back to your ex who left you in the first year because she said something that doesn’t mean anything. I don’t know how long I’m going to take other girls meddling into our affairs and you see it as nothing?”........She lamented, tears rolling down her eyes.
“Women sef, Must everything always end in tears? Can’t conflicts be resolved without someone feeling hurt or playing the victim?”........I wondered.
“Okay I've heard you, I won't be asking Mirabel any questions”........I muttered, letting go of the topic.
Women always have an impressive ability to navigate situations skillfully, often finding ways to turn circumstances to align with their interests or desired outcomes.
