I finally managed to keep Jenny quiet until Sandra departed on Wednesday. Sandra was thrilled to meet my family, and they extracted a promise from her to visit again.
Before leaving for work that morning, my mom even gave Sandra some money, as a parting gift.
The airport is approximately a two hour drive from my house. To ensure we arrived on time for her 12:00pm flight, we departed early.
I caught her gazing at me repeatedly while I drove her to the airport, to the point where she seemed distracted and lost track of our conversation.
“What is it Sandra?......I've been noticing your constant stares”........I mentioned to her, and she shrugged.
“It's nothing serious, just can't get over the fact that I will be very far from you”........she replied, with a sad expression on her face.
“You don't have to worry, we would surely communicate frequently via phone, just as if we are close to each other”........I assured her, and she nodded.
We arrived at the airport by 11:00am and waited until 11:45am, when her flight was called for boarding over the airport's public address system.
When the second boarding announcement was made, she stood up, and we shared a hug. Afterwards, she grabbed her bag and made her way to the departure gate.
She took a few steps away, then turned around and came back to me. I assumed she had forgotten something, but instead, she surprised me with a kiss, oblivious to the people surrounding us.
“Pascal, I love you”........she whispered, after breaking away from the kiss, and she left.
I stood there for a moment, collecting my thoughts, before making my way back to the car park to embark on the two hour journey home, hoping that my life wouldn't be thrown into chaos once again.
I arrived home later than expected due to a traffic jam on the road. Fortunately, I had already called Evelyn to inform her that I'd be delayed.
It was then that she informed me that her final exam, originally scheduled for that day, had been postponed to the following two days, Friday.
As I walked into the sitting room, I found my three sisters chatting away. But as soon as I entered, they abruptly stopped talking and started cheering and teasing me. It was then I knew that Jenny must have shared the news with them.
I knew I was in for a relentless barrage of jokes and teasing from my sisters for the next couple of days, and that their playful torment would be unrelenting.
We continued chatting and laughing, with Jenny sharing stories about Sandra's dramatic moans, when my mom walked in.
After exchanging warm greetings and welcomes, she casually mentioned to us that she planned to visit our dad the next day.
We questioned whether everything was alright with him, and she confirmed it was, admitting that she simply missed him.
This sparked a lighthearted teasing session, with all of us playfully joking with my mom before she retired to her room.
After dinner, I attempted to relax downstairs for a while, but my sisters persistent teasing drove me upstairs to the sanctuary of my room.
Upon reaching my room, I immediately dialed Sandra's number to inquire about her travels and ask after her loved ones.
We had a pleasant conversation, and after a while, we bid each other sweet dreams.
I was planning on going back to school to spend time with Evelyn. I didn’t want to bring her home since Sandra has registered her presence before my mum.
Although I was confident that my mom wouldn't make a fuss about it, I still considered it thoughtless and disrespectful to parade girls in front of her.
When my mom mentioned she would be visiting my dad, I saw the perfect opportunity and decided to invite Evelyn over to my place.
Since Evelyn opened up about her feelings for me, we've been making an effort to deepen our emotional connection and get closer on a more intimate level.
I made a conscious effort to stay in touch with Evelyn, regularly calling, texting, and sending goodnight messages to show I cared. Despite my best efforts, however, I couldn't shake the feeling of emotional detachment.
It was as if I was trying to force myself to do what I wasn't supposed to do. Well, just as Sandra had advised, I should keep trying, maybe eventually I will come to love Evelyn naturally.
Friday arrived, and I headed to Evelyn's school to pick her up. I kept her visit a secret from my sisters, looking forward to the surprise and reaction I'd get when I brought her home.
I initially considered filling Sandra in on Evelyn's upcoming visit, but after our awkward encounter at the airport, I thought better of it, realizing that sharing the news would only paint vivid pictures in her mind.
I thought it wise to accord Sandra some respect, and not talk to her about Evelyn for the moment.
I finally brought Evelyn home to my family's house, and as we walked in, my sisters were there to welcome us. After the initial hellos and introductions, I handed Evelyn over to their care and excused myself to head upstairs.
When I came back down, I met them discussing a female celebrity who is an actress. Jenny already took Evelyn's bag to her room and Evelyn was already feeling relaxed amongst them.
I didn’t know anything about what they were talking about or the actress herself so I settled with my phone.
I decided to checked up on Sandra, to know how she was faring. I messaged her first, and we started chatting.
“What’s up and how was your day?”.......I asked.
“I’m good and my day was fine, how about yours?”........she asked too.
“Mine was cool, just missing you”.......I replied “Awwwnnn Missing you too my baby........I just chatted with Jenny a while ago”..........she replied, and I frozed, my eyes widening with shock.
“Hope she didn't tell you anything?”........I asked.
“Anything like what?”.......she replied.
“Never mind.......How is your family?”........I asked, trying to change the topic.
“They are all good......I told my mom about your family and she sent her regards”........she replied.
“Ok that’s good, our regards too”.......I replied.
“I called your mom a while ago but she didn’t pick?”.......she announced, via our chat, and I became surprised.
“Ehhhnn!! You call my mom keehh? How did you get her number?”........I asked, feeling a cold shiver down my spine.
“Jenny gave it to me”.......she replied.
“Ok, mom isn't around anyways, she went to see our dad”........I informed her.
I was still chatting with Sandra when Jenny’s message came in. I frowned immediately, because I knew she was definitely up to no good, and I was right.
“Womanizer how far Na? them carry fine babes swear for you?”
The message really got me angry, then I deleted it and hissed loudly. Just when I was about continuing my conversations with Sandra, Evelyn's message came in.
“Your sisters are very friendly, where is your mom?”........she asked.
My eyes darted towards her direction, and she winked at me. I flashed her a fake smile, so she would think all is okay with me. Then I focused back on my phone.
“Sorry I didn’t tell you, she went to see my dad and won’t be back for a couple of days”........I replied.
After a while, my other sisters joined in the chat. They were just blasting me from different angles. Sending me funny emojis, stickers and memes.
In the middle of the chat between my sisters and myself, Sandra called.
I swiftly stood up, and left the sitting room and went up to my room, so I can have some privacy to talk to Sandra.
Sandra and I spoke at length on the phone, discussing nothing in particular, but somehow our conversation flowed effortlessly.
It was as if we were both tiptoeing around the elephant in the room, neither of us daring to mention the airport incident.
As our conversation drew to a close, Sandra broke the silence, reiterating the same words she had spoken at the airport.
”I love you”.......she said almost in a whisper.
Before I could respond to her, she quickly hung up and the conversation between us ended.
After hanging up, I leaned back and began to ponder my connection with Sandra. It struck me that, despite our closeness, we had never for once broached the subject of love.
“Why and where is this one coming from now? I hope this is not going to come and spoil things for us or add to the already complicated things in my life”........I wondered.
After much thought, I came back online, only to discover several messages from my three sisters and Evelyn.
Evelyn said she has something to discuss with me later, while Jenny told me she would tell Sandra about Evelyn if I don’t grease her palms amongst other things.
That girl is actually upping her game in extortion.
“Omo, I don buy market like this oh”........I muttered, feeling frustrated.
I felt bored in my room, so I went back downstairs. Surprisingly I met Evelyn and my siblings eating at the dinning table.
“Nawa oh, Nobody even cared to call me”........I sneered, as I watched them eat.
“We thought you already ate here some days ago, so which food are you talking about?”........my eldest sister said sarcastically, and others laughed.
I knew what my eldest sister meant, and I didn't want to go down that lane with her, so I ignored her.
“Even you Evelyn? you couldn’t call me.
So they’ve converted you to their side already?”.........I retorted.
“Yes oh, she has joined our meeting”........Jenny yelled.
I reluctantly joined them on the table. After we ate, we all discussed for a while before I left with Evelyn for my room.
As we were leaving, my sisters started making funny sounds. Jenny even made one of the sounds Sandra made, when we were intimate. But luckily Evelyn didn't understand.
“Your siblings are very friendly”.........she mentioned, as we entered my room.
“Yeah, though they can be very naughty most times”........I replied.
“I’m enjoying them seriously, especially Jenny”.........she said excitedly.
“That one is the worst amongst them. She is something else”........I replied.
The small talk fizzled out, plunging the room into an awkward silence. With Evelyn showing no signs of speaking up, I reluctantly took the lead.
“You said you wanted us to talk about something?”..........I reminded her.
“Yea, but I don’t think it’s necessary”........she replied.
“Come on, tell me what it is?”.......I pestered.
“Ok, who is Sandra?”........she asked, staring at me intently.
“Sandra?”.......I asked, to be sure I heard her right.
“Yes, who is she?”........she asked again.
“She is just a friend of mine...... what about her?”........I nervously asked.
“Nothing. Do I know her?”........she asked.
“No you don't”........I replied.
“Has she been here?”........she asked, scanning me with her eyes.
It puzzled me that she was inquiring about Sandra, especially since they've never crossed paths before.
“Why are you even asking all these questions?”........I asked, feeling somehow irritated.
“Your sisters have been calling me Sandra ever since I came in.......so I suspected it has something to do with you”.........she explained.
These girls, can’t they just pretend for a little before Evelyn leaves? Do they always frustrate my life?
“Dont mind my sisters, Sandra is just my friend. Actually she came here and left before you came. She left on Monday”........I explained to her.
“Are you guys going out or something? Is she in school too?”.........she asked apprehensively.
“Yes she is in school and no we aren't dating or anything close to that.......She is just a friend”........I replied.
“Why didn’t you tell me about her coming to your house?”.......she retorted, sounding like she is jealous.
“Evelyn come on, is that even necessary? There is nothing between us and that's it........She wanted me to look after her car while she travels. I couldn’t just come back with a car and tell my parents stories so she had to come with me”........I explained, with a bit of impatience.
“Did she meet your mum?”........she asked.
“Yes she did”.......I replied coldly.
“Hmm!! Pascal, I'm really not comfortable with this girl called Sandra that you are telling me about.......Does she even know about us?”........she yelled.
“Yes she knows every damn thing about us.......Can you stop it with this question thing already?”..........I fired back.
“I just don’t feel right about this girl.......I’m not just cool with your friendship with her”.......she said angrily and left my room, shutting the door loudly behind her.
To Be Continued...........
