Picking my phone from the bed, I went to my family's WhatsApp group which I created for me and my sisters, and I started blasting them.
I was infuriated and gave them a piece of my mind. However, they later apologized profusely, attributing their hurtful comment to a thoughtless slip of the tongue, assuring me they meant no harm and promising to extend their apology to Evelyn.
I intended to have a word with Evelyn afterwards, but my emotions were still raw, so I decided to give her space. We would resolve our indifferences the following day.
I rose at my usual hour of 9am, completed my morning routine, and headed downstairs, only to find the house eerily quiet and empty.
The silence in the house was deafening, and it seemed as though I was alone. It was unusual that everyone would venture out without a word, leaving me uninformed.
I swung by the kitchen, but it was deserted. As I turned to retreat to my room to grab my phone, I caught the faint sound of a voice coming from Jenny's room, and my feet instinctively carried me towards it.
As I stepped into the room, my sister's hushed words trailed off, and I was met with an uncomfortable silence from both of them.
Evelyn's eyes were brimming with tears, and both of them fixed me with a cold, unwelcoming gaze, as if I had interrupted a private moment.
“How long have you been standing behind that door”..........Jenny asked rudely, as she strided towards me.
“Standing behind which door? I was even looking for you people.......I was thinking you guys went out or something”.......I replied.
“Ok fine, you have seen us now, please give us some privacy.......Your food is on the table, so go and eat”.........she muttered impatiently, as she shoved me out of the room.
“I don't understand, this one you are pushing me out I hope nothing is going down between you two”..........I asked suspiciously.
“Abeg get out from here, and don’t even try to eavesdrop on us or else”.........She yelled behind the door.
I wanted to eavesdrop on my sister and Evelyn, but I didn’t want that sister's wahala, so I quietly left the door, and went to the dining table to have my breakfast.
After my breakfast, I decided to sit in the sitting room for a while, to watch some movies on TV. Then Jenny and Evelyn also came to the sitting room.
They were both laughing as they came, but Evelyn stopped laughing instantly, the moment she set her eyes on me. I began to wonder why she was giving me a cold shoulder.
Jenny and I engaged in a conversation, and after a while of talking to her, Evelyn excused herself to use the bathroom.
Immediately Evelyn left, Jenny started her teasing.
“Double dealer, sneak attack”........she yelled.
I know she was referring to me, but I ignored her. I wasn't in the mood to entertain any teasing from her.
“So you don’t want to answer me abi? don’t worry, na you go beg me make I talk”..........she retorted, hissing loudly.
I really wanted to know the conversation she had with Evelyn inside her room, so I turned to her, to ask questions.
“Do you mind if I have some knowledge of the conversation you had with Evelyn”.........I requested, and she glared at me.
“And why do you think I would tell you?”........she asked rudely, and I shrugged.
“I think I also deserve to know what you both talked about”.......I replied.
“Okay then, we didn't discuss about you, or anything related to you........try to mind your business”.......she said with finality, putting on her headset.
I wasn't going to give up, I had the feeling that Jenny was lying to me, and she didn't want to tell me anything about what they discussed, because of course it was all about me.
I was determined to discover the truth, or get Jenny to talk to me, so I kept pestering her.
“Talk to me na, this your shakara too much oh”.........I pleaded with her, removing the headset from her ears.
“Shebi, when I was teasing you earlier, you were ignoring me and forming a hard man?.......I would like you to keep ignoring me oh”.........she sneered.
“I am very sorry, I didn't mean to ignore you please”..........I pleaded.
“Sorry won't solve anything oh, I need airtime of five hundred naira”........she demanded, avoiding my gaze.
“You can never change, I pity your husband sha.......Its only God that will judge you”........I cursed under my breath, as I brought out a one thousand naira note, and handed it to her, which she greedily snatched from me.
“Enheenn! Now you are talking......if you dey always dash me money like dis, we for no dey get issues”.........she snapped.
“I have already given you what you requested already, please start talking”.......I said anxiously, and then she started talking, while I listened with rapt attention.
“Calm down, your babe was only confiding in me the story of how you both started.........She told me everything, and I have come to realise that she really loves you.I saw it in her eyes
“First you have to be careful when it comes to women and their feelings.......If you don’t love a girl, don’t keep taking advantage of her. If you people have been having sèx without feelings, and all of a sudden she starts bringing feelings into it, if you don’t feel the same way for her, guy walk away”
“Don’t keep on giving a girl hope when you know that there is no hope for her with you.......It is better for her to face the hurt that moment and get over it than for you to keep punishing her emotionally and at the end of the day still hurt her”
“Sometimes some of them come back for revenge and believe me some girls don’t think of the after effect of their actions.......you better be careful”
“Like I said earlier, Evelyn really loves you and is a very good girl. Though a victim of some parental circumstances........Despite the fact that she is older than you are, she still loves you.
But that notwithstanding, if you don’t love her, find a way to tell her and make the hurt less on her”
“On the other hand, if you love her, then keep away from other girls. I know some of you men will always want to have side chicks, but do keep it far away from the woman you love”
“I’m a girl, and I know what it feels like to know that this particular girl is very close to your boyfriend and she is not his sister.......Even if the girl is his sister, there is always this feeling of jealousy and anger, when they are overly too close”
“You have to be careful with these girls you mingle with........I know you think that you and Sandra are just having a fling but believe me, she has feelings for you too.
And may likely come out on her own to tell you very soon "
"I have talked to Evelyn, and she feels a lot better now. She couldn’t sleep throughout the night........I’m going to leave you both now, so find a way to make peace with her”
“And please, you people should not bring down this house with knacking oh”.........she said, and she stood up and walked out of the house.
